Employees of Airtel Ghana – the Smartphone Network – have climaxed the month long breast cancer awareness campaign with an inter-departmental cooking competition to raise funds for breast cancer awareness and cure.
The event which follows three weeks of exciting activities brought together the various units within the company to compete for a year’s bragging rights as they locked horns in the competitive cooking competition in line with the theme for this year’s celebrations “Eat Well, Live Well“.
“Eat Well, Live Well is a call to action to encourage our employees, customers and the general public to embrace good eating habits, fitness and healthy living as one of the ways of preventing breast cancer. Our employees have always been great advocates for community initiatives and we are truly inspired by the commitment and enthusiasm they have shown throughout the month long celebration”. Hannah Agbozo, Legal and Corporate Affairs Director of Airtel Ghana said.
She continued “We are grateful to all our partners who supported us throughout the month. For the cooking competition, we extend our gratitude to – Dainess Foods and Envirofit Ghana for partnering with us, as part of their own contribution towards raising awareness on breast cancer. .
Early detection and treatment remains the surest way to combat breast cancer, I want to encourage all our customers and the general public to keep spreading the message and supporting this worthy cause”.
We believe that next year, we’ll make a greater impact with the support of our employees, customers, partners and the general public in the fight against breast cancer prevention, early detection and treatment”. She added.
Teams from Airtel’s Data Center, Call Center, Head Office and Shops competed in the novel culinary contest. At the end of the day, the Call Center team carried the day.
Envirofit one of the partners of the cooking competition is a global social enterprise that innovate smart clean cook stoves that enable families to live smarter and save money, while reducing climate change, increasing clean energy initiatives, and creating new economic opportunities. Envirofit provided cookstoves for the competition and also prizes for the winners.
The breast cancer awareness campaign has been a-call-to-action by Airtel employees for customers and Ghanaians in general to support the drive to create awareness on breast cancer and to raise funds for the cause over the last five years. Last year, Airtel Ghana supported the Sweden Ghana Medical Cancer Foundation and the Judith Ellen Awuah Darko Foundation with funds raised through employee donations. This year, proceeds from the campaign will be donated to an organization involved in advocacy on breast cancer.
Airtel Ghana continues to lead in sustainable corporate social responsibility programmes spanning health, education and community empowerment.
