Duped customers of DKM Microfinance Limited have expressed disappointment in President Akufo-Addo for deceiving them into believing that his government will help ensure the receiving of their locked deposits.
Their disappointments came at the heels of the position held by the minister for Finance designate, Ken Ofori-Atta during his vetting that paying DKM customers is not in NPP’s manifesto. He said he is not sure the NPP has in its manifesto a promise to settle aggrieved DKM customers in the first hundred days.
According to victims who spoke to this paper, they are very much disappointed in the minister designate and the NPP for taking such position even though President Akufo-Addo during his campaign promised to ensure their locked deposits are paid.
They indicated that the minister designate might not be aware of the promises Nana Akufo-Addo made to them for which they voted for the party to assume governance so as to help them in getting back their deposits.
Meanwhile speaking at a rally at Busunya in the Nkoranza North constituency of the Brong- Ahafo Region, on 12th July, 2016, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo assured defrauded customers of some microfinance companies in the Brong Ahafo Region that he will retrieve all monies they lost if he is elected in November.
“If voted as President, I will do everything in my power to get your monies back to you,” he told the ecstatic crowd.
” I will refund DKM customers in full”, President Akufo-Addo said and that he will investigate government’s inability to pay the monies owned as well as investigate the DKM scandal and to ensure that there would be total restoration to all affected in both scandals”.
According to the aggrieved customers, life has been unbearable for them and that due to the fact that all their investments are locked up in the scandal, they have nothing to live on.
“We cannot even pay school fees. Our children are all at home because we have no money to take them to school.” A customer said.
Another customer retorted, “We are all in this country when Akufo Addo promised to help us retrieve our investments. I am an NDC man but due to the promise Akufo Addo made to us, we were all hoping that things will be fine. But with his information from the finance minister designate, we have nothing to say than to express our disappointment in the NPP. But what we can assure them is that if nothing is done about our situation, we will vote against them in 2020.”
It could be recall that, customers of DKM Finance have their deposits locked up in some scandal that hit the company.
Everything is clear that, whenever the NPP government is in shit they quickly drop an issue to distract peoples attention.
The NPP government is now hot! And after riding on the back of DKM micro finance company to win power, they are making fool out of the peoples’ expectations.
During the previous government, PwC, was appointed by the Registrar-General to value the assets of DKM, has finished its job and the assets are supposed to be liquidated to pay back the customers.
Over 70,000 customers, according to reports, have been validated to receive their locked up cash, and two local banks have been contracted to make the payments from September ending.
Meanwhile as government was in the process of honoring its promise to the people, the NPP flagbearer accused the Mahama government of doing nothing to assist, hence promised to restore their money.
After winning power, government of Akufo Addo is making a sudden U-turn from its promise thereby putting customers in a very uncomfortable situation.
They have therefore called on Akufo Addo to come out and declare his stance on DKM saga.
