IBO Championship Belt Presented To Accra Mayor Ahead Of Fight

The Mayor of Accra, Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije has been presented with the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Lightweight Championship belt for the winner of the November 25 fight.

 Baby Jet Promotions presented the belt to the Mayor between for safe keeping ahead of the fight which will be between Emmanuel “Game Boy” Tagoe and Fernando David Saucedo.

The fight which is expected to take place at the newly built Trust Emporium, Bukom Arena, in Accra will give Tagoe an opportunity to put the nation back in the limelight after Richard Commey’s world title shot over a month ago when he lost controversially to Robert Easter Jnr.

Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije who received the belt on behalf of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, commended Baby Jet Promotions for its ability to bring such a competition to the city of Accra and Ghana.

According to Dr. Okoe Vanderpuije, government recognizes that the Bukum area has always produced great boxers hence the President’s initiative to construct of a new gym in the Ga Mashie area to promote boxing and sports in general.

He said, “I am very happy that just when the President will commission the facility that a fight of this magnititude has been accepted internationally to take place here…This goes to show that we did not just build a gym but that we have built a facility that meets international standards,” and assured the organizers that government will continue to promote sports in the country since it offers job opportunities and develops the talents of the youth.

He called on the youth to take opportunity of the new facility and appealed to the promoters to scout as many more boxers in Accra, give them the necessary training and prepare them to fight on behalf of the country.

Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije who is also the NDC Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South Constituency, was hopeful the fight will open the door for many more international fights, and wished Emmanuel “Game Boy” Tagoe well.

On his part, Prince Randy Opoku-Afriyie, Operations Manager of Baby Jet Promotions, thanked the Accra Mayor and government for the support and commitment in ensuring that the fight grounds meets international standards, saying that the belt was presented to the Mayor because he is the political head of the Accra Metropolis.

Team Baby Jet is confident of victory on November 25, with “GameBoy” who has proven to be a tough boxer ever since the team took over his management four years ago.

Meanwhile, Saucedo is expected to arrive in the country on November 18 with his trainer who happens to be his father, as well as his brother and uncle who will be at his corner for the fight.
